Our History

The Pet Pantry was founded in 2015 with the primary mission of helping to prevent the surrender of people’s beloved pets because they could not afford to provide them with proper food. We began as a pilot program with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana for the first year of our operation and still have a close partnership with the Food Bank.  We filed as a nonprofit corporation with the state of Louisiana in the fall of 2015 and received our 501(c)3 tax-exempt status from the IRS in our own right as the Pet Pantry of Northwest Louisiana, Inc.

February 1, 2020, friends, Amy Rodgers Lipscomb and Tammie Williams took ownership of the Pantry. Both Amy and Tammie were born and raised in the Shreveport/Bossier area, still residing in Bossier with their families.  As Christians we are called to help the poor, the orphans and the widows.  But we are to do it out of love and compassion not out of obligation.  The program directors are volunteers only.  There are no paid employees at The Pet Pantry or expenses related to daily operations.  All donations are used to purchase pet food and the supplies needed to re-package the food.

During their first month as directors, they provided dog and cat food to 257 families.  With the help of our volunteers, distribution quickly grew the first year ending December of 2020 serving over 850 families a month.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us.  We hope you will see that the Pet Pantry of NWLA has existed and will continue to exist because of the need that has to be met.  It is only with your help that we can continue to meet this need.  We hope you will consider supporting us in the future as we work to fulfill this mission, and if you already are a dedicated supporter of the Pantry THANK YOU!!!
